Modalities & Approach

A woman meditating with roots, flowers, and sun symbolizing growth and peace.

At Inner Root Counseling & Wellness, we believe that healing is a multidimensional process shaped by the mind, body, nervous system, relationships, and lived experiences. Our approach is rooted in evidence-based psychotherapy while thoughtfully integrating holistic practices, including mindfulness therapy, to support deeper and more sustainable healing.

All therapeutic services are provided by a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200), ensuring that our care is clinically sound, trauma-informed, ethically grounded, and LGBTQIA+ inclusive.

An Integrated, Ethical, Whole-Person Approach

All practices at Inner Root Counseling & Wellness are guided by ethical standards, clinical training, and a commitment to client autonomy. Our holistic practices integrate modalities thoughtfully and collaboratively: always centered on what feels supportive, safe, and aligned for each individual. Healing here is not about fixing; it is about reconnecting, resourcing, and growing from the inside out through mindfulness therapy.

Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy

Our therapy is deeply trauma-informed, emphasizing holistic practices that prioritize safety, consent, choice, collaboration, and empowerment in every session. We recognize trauma as something that resides not only in thoughts and memories but also in the nervous system and body. This mindfulness therapy is paced intentionally, honoring each client’s readiness and capacity to engage in treatment throughout the entire process.

We support clients navigating:

- Trauma and complex trauma responses

- Anxiety and chronic stress

- Identity exploration and life transitions

- Relationship and attachment challenges

- Burnout, anxiety, depression, and emotional regulation

Person-Centered & Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Our approach is person-centered, emphasizing the client as the expert of their own experience. We provide care through collaborative and non-pathologizing therapy, grounded in unconditional positive regard. We aim to create a space where clients feel deeply seen, respected, and supported, recognizing the importance of the mind-body connection.

Incorporating mindfulness therapy and holistic practices, we support clients in cultivating present-moment awareness, emotional insight, and self-compassion. These practices help clients build a stronger relationship with their inner experience while reducing reactivity and stress.

LGBTQIA+ Affirming & Gender-Affirming Care

We provide LGBTQIA+ affirming care and gender-affirming therapy that honors the full spectrum of sexual orientations, gender identities, and relationship structures. Our approach is inclusive, culturally responsive, and rooted in respect for each client’s lived experience. This safe space allows you to be yourself with no exceptions, while we incorporate holistic practices and mindfulness therapy into our sessions.

We support clients with:

- Identity exploration and self-acceptance

- Gender affirmation and transition-related care

- Minority stress and systemic trauma

- Relationship and family dynamics

- Navigating visibility, boundaries, and belonging

Somatic Therapy & Trauma-Informed Yoga

As a licensed therapist and registered yoga teacher, we integrate somatic therapy and trauma-informed yoga into our clinical work when appropriate, offering holistic practices that support nervous system regulation, embodiment, and emotional processing. Through gentle, invitational movement and mindfulness therapy, these practices can be part of the therapeutic experience or tailored into an individualized yoga session to meet your current needs.

Somatic and yoga-informed practices may include:

- Breath work and grounding techniques

- Gentle, accessible movement

- Body-based awareness and interoception

- Restorative and trauma-sensitive yoga practices

No prior yoga experience is required, and all practices are adapted to meet each client’s comfort level and needs.

Couples Counseling

We offer couples counseling that integrates evidence-based therapeutic models with trauma-informed care practices; including holistic practices and mindfulness therapy. Our approach helps partners identify relational patterns, increase emotional awareness, and develop more effective ways of expressing needs, boundaries, and vulnerability. It is not about assigning blame or 'fixing' one partner, but rather cultivating understanding, safety, and intentional connection. Together, we work to help partners feel more grounded, seen, and supported.

Sessions may focus on:

- Improving communication and conflict navigation

- Pre-marital, long-term, or trauma-affected couples

- Understanding attachment styles and relational dynamics

- Rebuilding trust after rupture or disconnection

- Strengthening emotional intimacy and connection

- Navigating transitions, stress, or identity changes

- Navigating visibility, boundaries, and belonging

Energy Work & Integrative Practices

Energy-based practices are offered as adjunctive, client-led supports within a holistic framework. These holistic practices are grounded in mindfulness, intention, and somatic awareness; but are never a substitute for psychotherapy or medical care.

Energy work may be used to support:

- Relaxation and stress reduction

- Emotional grounding and integration

- Increased body awareness

- Personal reflection and insight

Tarot as a Reflective Tool

Tarot is offered as a reflective and symbolic tool, not as fortune-telling or predictive guidance. Within a therapeutic context, tarot can support self-exploration, meaning-making, and intuitive insight, aligning with holistic practices. It is utilized only with client consent and framed as a creative modality for reflection, rather than diagnosis or treatment. This approach is where inclusivity and understanding are vital.

Tarot may support:

- Exploring internal narratives and patterns

- Gaining perspective during transitions

- Deepening self-awareness and intuition

- Facilitating discussion and insight, complementing mindfulness therapy.
